Keeping your windscreen clean is crucial, and a legal requirement for safe driving, and topping up your screen wash reservoir is a straightforward task that anyone can handle. Whether you’re new to driving or just need a quick refresher, here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do it right.
1. Choose the right screenwash
Start by selecting a high-quality concentrated or ready-to-use screen wash. If you opt for concentrated, ensure you mix it with water according to the recommended ratio for the season. 2. Lift the bonnet
Next, open your vehicle’s bonnet and locate the screen wash reservoir cap. It’s usually identifiable by a blue color and features a windscreen icon. Flip the cap open and hold it back to keep it out of the way while you pour.
3. Top up your screenwash reservoir
Pour the screenwash into the reservoir until it’s completely full. You might see some bubbles as you pour; just wait for these to settle before continuing. Most reservoirs have a semi-transparent hose, which allows you to monitor the fill level easily. And that’s it—you’re all done.
How to adjust screenwash nozzles
If you’ve noticed that your screenwash isn’t spraying evenly or you’ve accidentally sprayed a car behind you, it might be time to adjust the nozzles. Fortunately, this is a quick and simple task that you can manage on your own.
1. Clear blockages
Grab a needle and gently insert it into the washer nozzles. This not only helps you adjust the nozzle but also clears any debris that might be obstructing the spray pattern.
2. Align the nozzle
With the needle in place, carefully adjust the nozzle so it points directly at the windscreen. Once you’re satisfied with the alignment, remove the needle and test the spray. If it still isn’t quite right, you may need to repeat the adjustment process.
