Fuel industry experience, open ears and personal service
With nine years in management roles centred on customer service, Ellis Wall brings experience of both service station operations and fuel card account management to his role at Fleetmaxx Solutions Middlesbrough.
Having managed service stations across the North East and worked in fuel card business development, he understands the process from several different perspectives. But his approach to helping customers starts with something straightforward: listening.
Asked what customers can rely on him for, Ellis says: “Honesty, open ears, prioritising their service over all else.”
Finding the right fit for each business
Ellis’s role involves building relationships with existing and potential customers, supporting them with reducing spend and streamlining their admin processes.
That starts with understanding how each business operates, where its drivers fill up and what it needs from a fuel card provider.
Whether a customer wants to review their fuel costs or make managing their accounts easier, Ellis can help them explore their fuel card options and consider which products and networks suit their requirements.
His focus on listening gives customers the opportunity to explain what’s working, what isn’t and where they’d welcome more support.
Experience on both sides of the fuel card process
Before joining Fleetmaxx Solutions, Ellis managed numerous service stations across the North East for Penny Petroleum.
“I’ve worked in management positions for nine years, all gravitating around customer service positions.”
His time managing forecourts gave him first-hand experience of how fuel cards are used and processed.
“I’ve managed multiple service stations around the North East area, so I’m aware of the fuel card process from every point of view and every hand a fuel card will pass through.”
Ellis has also worked as a Business Development Manager at another fuel card provider. That experience means he’s familiar with supporting business customers as well as the service stations their drivers use.
Together, those roles give him a practical understanding to draw on when discussing a customer’s current arrangements and explaining what Fleetmaxx Solutions can offer.
Alongside his professional experience, Ellis holds an FdA in Public Services and a BSc (Hons) in Police Studies, both completed in 2021.

Building relationships with customers
Ask Ellis what he enjoys most about his job and his answer comes back to the people:
“Building relationships with current and future customers. Speaking to people from different aspects of life.”
Those conversations are central to how he works. Getting to know the person behind the account helps him understand their priorities and the challenges they’re looking to resolve.
His emphasis on honesty, listening and service reflects the support we aim to provide at Fleetmaxx Solutions: someone who takes the time to understand your business and helps you work through the available options.
Away from the office
Outside work, Ellis plays rugby union for Hartlepool Rugby Club in the number 12 position.
He also enjoys hiking around the Lake District and travelling to European cities for long weekends.
And there are a few things about Ellis you might not expect:
“I had my short story published when I was nine years old. I was in a Netflix documentary. I was on a BBC TV show.”
Which documentary and television show? There’s something to ask him about next time you have a chat.
