A big haircut with an even bigger heart: Claire’s fundraiser for Little Lady Locks

Claire is cutting off her long hair – helping children with cancer is the reason why!

There are plenty of reasons to be proud of the people we work with. Sometimes, though, a colleague does something that deserves a little extra attention.

Our very own Claire Martin, Sales Manager at the Fleetmaxx Solutions office in Northwich, is preparing to part with her long hair for a wonderful cause.

On 5 December 2026, Claire will be visiting Little Lady Locks to have her hair cut and donate it to help children experiencing hair loss. She is also raising money to support the charity’s work, and we would love our colleagues, customers and friends to get behind her.

A charity helping children feel like themselves again

Little Lady Locks was founded in 2018 by Ashley Higgins, a hair professional specialising in hair loss.

While working with adults, Ashley repeatedly heard difficult stories about growing up with hair loss. Clients described bullying, isolation and families being unable to afford solutions that might have helped.

Ashley wanted to make a change. After seeing the difference hair replacement systems made to two young people, five-year-old Harper and 15-year-old Ruba, she was inspired to help more children regain their confidence.

That commitment became Little Lady Locks.

Today, the charity makes, supplies and fits wigs and hair replacement systems, alongside accessories such as hats and headbands incorporating hair extensions. Its hair services are completely free for children under 18 experiencing hair loss anywhere in the UK, including through alopecia, cancer treatment and other medical conditions.

For a child finding hair loss difficult, having a choice about their appearance can mean a great deal.

Why Claire is making the cut

When Claire told me what she was planning, I wanted to help spread the word. Donating long hair is a personal commitment, and she wants her haircut to help as many children as possible.

Claire explains:

“I am raising funds for Little Lady Locks, a children’s charity providing free hair systems to children experiencing hair loss anywhere in the UK.

“On 5 December, I will be donating my long hair, and I would love to raise as much money as possible to help as many children as we can. Even the smallest donation can make a difference, so thank you to everyone who supports me.”

The work continues after the haircut

Donated hair is a valuable gift, but transforming it into a wig takes specialist skills, time and funding.

Little Lady Locks says it costs approximately £500 to turn donated hair into one child’s wig. Its wig makers carefully knot individual strands onto a wig cap, a process that can take up to 60 hours.

That is why Claire is combining her hair donation with fundraising. The money raised helps support the skilled work needed to turn those donations into something a child can wear.
