We went to Oulton Park with Shell. Two Fleetmaxx colleagues topped the timing sheets.
Oulton Park track day report by Mark Checksfield, Head of Operations at Fleetmaxx Solutions
It is not every day I get to swap my usual working environment for Oulton Park. I recently joined members of the Fleetmaxx team at a track day organised by our friends and partners at Shell, alongside other Shell resellers.
There were approximately 60 participants taking part in the events, so there was plenty of friendly competition throughout the day. With six very different vehicles to experience, everyone had something to look forward to.
From Formula 4 to four-wheel drive
The line-up included an Alpine A110, a Formula 4 single seater, a Toyota GT86 rally car, a Land Rover Defender 4×4, a JPLM sports prototype and a Caterham Seven.
That variety was one of the best parts of the day. The Alpine and Caterham offered two takes on a sports car, while the Formula 4 single seater and JPLM sports prototype brought the excitement of motorsport. The Toyota GT86 rally event offered a different challenge again, and the Defender added a four-wheel-drive experience to the programme.
Working in the fleet industry, we spend a lot of time thinking about vehicles from a practical point of view: keeping them moving, managing costs and supporting the businesses that depend on them. It was great to spend a day enjoying them with colleagues and others who share that interest.
A successful day for Fleetmaxx
I should also mention that the Fleetmaxx team came away with two fastest times!
Cameron Kent recorded the fastest time in the Formula 4 single seater event, an excellent result in a field of around 60 participants. I was delighted to record the fastest time in the Toyota GT86 rally event. There may have been a little friendly competition between us afterwards.
The results were a bonus, but the best part was sharing the day with the team. In operations, I see how hard our colleagues work to support customers and keep things running smoothly. Oulton Park gave us a chance to step away from our usual routines, catch up and make some great memories together.
Thank you to Shell for inviting Fleetmaxx and the other resellers, and for organising such an enjoyable day. It was a pleasure to take part, meet others from across the reseller network and bring home a couple of fastest times.
Which event would you have headed for first?
About Oulton Park: Nestled in the Cheshire countryside near Little Budworth, Oulton Park is one of Britain’s best-known motor racing circuits. The track was developed within the natural contours of the former Oulton Hall estate, and its first race meeting took place in 1953. Its mix of bends, changes in elevation and woodland scenery gives the venue a character all of its own.
Oulton Park has welcomed generations of competitors and motorsport fans. Its calendar includes the British Touring Car Championship, British Superbikes, British GT and the historic Gold Cup meeting. The Gold Cup has a particularly rich history: Sir Stirling Moss won it five times, and the event continues to celebrate racing cars from years gone by.
There is plenty happening at the venue beyond race weekends. Oulton Park also offers track days, driving experiences and corporate events, giving visitors the chance to experience the circuit in different ways. It was a memorable setting for our day with Shell and fellow resellers, whether we were taking on the Formula 4 single seater, testing our rally skills or comparing our times afterwards.
