A glittering performance our Paul helps his dance partners achieve Strictly success
At Fleetmaxx Solutions, we are used to seeing Paul Maguire deliver winning performances for his customers. This time, however, he swapped fuel cards and fleet savings for ballroom shoes, helping two fantastic contestants step into the spotlight for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.
Our Business Development Manager recently took part in Strictly Ballroom Manchester at Vermillion Events, near the Etihad Stadium. The Strictly-inspired charity event gave contestants the chance to train with an experienced partner before performing their routine in front of a live audience.
There was no need for the judges to deliberate for long, as Paul and his dance partners certainly gave them something to talk about!
Paul partnered two contestants during the event: Katie Law, who performed a fabulous cha-cha, and Helen Woodall, who took to the floor with a quickstep.
Both ladies delivered brilliant performances, but Helen’s fancy footwork helped her score a perfect result. She won the award for Best Technical Performance before being crowned the overall winner and lifting the coveted glitterball trophy.

From fuel cards to footwork
Paul might be best known to our customers for helping businesses reduce their fuel, AdBlue® and wider fleet costs, but away from work, he is certainly no stranger to the ballroom.
He has been dancing for an impressive 33 and a half years and is highly experienced in Latin and ballroom, alongside many other styles. Dancing also runs in the Maguire family, with Paul’s parents and siblings having taken to the floor over the years.
With that much experience under his sequinned belt, Paul is a fantastic partner for contestants who may never have danced in front of an audience before.
Learning a routine, remembering every step and walking onto a packed dance floor takes real courage. However, Paul knows exactly how to offer encouragement, share his knowledge and help his partners keep dancing all the way to the final pose.
Two left feet can still reach the glitterball
One of the best things about events like Strictly Ballroom is that they prove dancing really is for everyone.
Many contestants begin their training convinced that they have two left feet or simply cannot dance. With the right partner, plenty of practice and a little Strictly sparkle, they often discover just how much they can achieve.
The experience is about far more than receiving a score from the judges or lifting the glitterball trophy. Contestants learn a new skill, build their confidence, make wonderful memories and raise vital funds for a brilliant cause.
Katie and Helen should both be incredibly proud of what they achieved. Performing the cha-cha and quickstep in front of a live audience is no small challenge, but they both stepped up, faced the music and embraced the full Strictly experience.
Dancing for a wonderful cause
Paul regularly gives his time and dancing expertise to support different charities through Strictly-style events throughout the year.
He might not have Craig, Motsi, Shirley and Anton scoring his performances, but he certainly receives a ten from everyone at Fleetmaxx Solutions for using his talent to support other people and raise money for worthy causes.
The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation supports people affected by lung cancer while funding research and campaigning for better outcomes.
