At Fleetmaxx Solutions, we understand how important it is to look after the environment we all share. That’s why we’ve partnered with Carma to plant trees not only here in the UK but also in Fiji and Bombo-Kwale, Kenya. Together, we’re working towards a greener, healthier planet, one tree at a time.
Restoring Mangroves
One of the regions we’re supporting is coastal Kenya, a beautiful but underdeveloped area where more than 62% of the population lives below the poverty line. The local communities depend heavily on mangrove ecosystems for employment, nutrition, and livelihoods. However, rapid urbanisation and weak governance have led to widespread destruction of these vital ecosystems, further exacerbating poverty.
Through our partnership with Carma, we are restoring Kenya’s mangrove forests to empower local communities and enhance biodiversity. Mangroves play a critical role in stabilising coastlines, providing fishing grounds, and offering sustainable harvesting opportunities. By supporting this restoration effort, we’re helping to protect coastal communities from tropical storms while creating additional income streams that promote long-term resilience.
Transforming lives
Take Merceline, for example, a mother of seven who works in a mangrove nursery. Before joining the restoration efforts, she had little knowledge of the importance of mangroves. Today, thanks to education and employment through our partner EarthLungs, she is an enthusiastic advocate for sustainable practices, using deadwood for firewood and encouraging others to do the same. Her story highlights the powerful impact of restoration initiatives on both the environment and the lives of the people involved.
Ensuring transparency with Veritree
To ensure the highest level of trust and transparency, we’ve partnered with Veritree, a platform connecting Carma to verified tree-planting projects. Veritree uses groundbreaking technology, including blockchain and on-the-ground monitoring, to track every step of the reforestation process. From site planning to long-term monitoring, Veritree provides complete visibility into the impact of our efforts, giving our customers and partners confidence that every tree planted makes a real difference.
Why Mangroves?
Mangroves are unique, bushy trees that thrive in saltwater along coastlines. They are vital for biodiversity, supporting sustainable fishing and providing nurseries for marine life. In Kenya’s Likoni River Delta, the restored mangrove forests protect the land from erosion, create additional income opportunities, and act as a natural defence against tropical storms.
By working with local communities and organisations like EarthLungs and the Kenyan Forestry Service, Veritree ensures that the trees we plant are cared for, monitored, and protected for years to come. Education and involvement foster a sense of pride and ownership among the communities, ensuring the long-term success of these projects.
